by Maddie Photography on Flickr It's taken me a LOOOOOOOOOONG time to even begin to articulate my thoughts about the "Occupy" movement. University students have been asking me and even my neighbours. Thanks Dr. Seuss for breaking my "occupy"-block!! Part of me wanted to go be there & walk in someone's shoes so I'd have a more valid perspective, but the truth is that this fall I'm taking part in my own occupation take on simplicity - call it reoccupying myself. Still, almost every day I'd (virtually) check in with those who gathered to call attention to the disproportionate power that the wealthiest 1 per cent of the planet have over the rest of us. In NY, using the phrase "We are the 99 percent", a circle of inclusion and interdependence around structural forms of violence.
