Today marks the anniversary of the loss of one of our greatest artists. Diego Rivera was an exceptional artist and yes, a bit of a rogue. Diego was also known for his passionate & tumultuous relationship with Frida Kahlo. They both, in their own way, revolutionized the art and social scene in Mexico. Diego Rivera also happens to be one of the fictionalized historical characters from my second novel PAPILLON. From the pages of my novel, one of my favourite Diego quotes: “An artist is above all a human being, profoundly human to the core. If the artist can’t feel everything that humanity feels, if the artist isn’t capable of loving until he forgets himself and sacrifices himself if necessary, if he won’t put down his magic brush and head the fight against the oppressor, then he isn’t a great artist.” For a taste of Diego's murals, I'd recommend checking out the last exhibition they hosted at the MoMA called: Diego Rivera: Murals for The Museum of Modern Art: View the exhibition site
