Write What You Know (cont'd)

In my 2nd novel, the character of Isabelle (that 'mentally flamboyant' gal from my first novel) describes the WELL OF GRIEF (WoG):
The WoG is that place Inside us where memories, good & bad, of those people who've left our lives, and changed us forever, dwell. The well is ever-replenishing and whenever Isabelle dips her bucket into its depth there is that moment when she can hardly breathe.
And that's an example of Write What You Know:)

As for me, if I do catch my breath after dipping into the WoG, it's by reminding myself how suffering has helped me to break through the shell of my smaller (pettier) selves.
By breaking through that shell, I found myself in a place where I could genuinely wish for the happiness of those who I've considered great friends & great loves, whether I was a part of their lives, or not. I consider it one of my greatest emotional accomplishments.
And when I write about those emotions, I feel the sort of catharsis (Steph would say I'm consumed) that every artist I know needs to survive, to breathe. It's that breath of life that keeps me writing & creating.
