This novel should be read by anyone seeking justice for past wrongs, or anyone who's ever judged those seeking justice (or revenge). Rather than coming off preachy, Richard's, through his narrator, weaves a damn fine fishing net.
I read a review of a past Richard's novel that compared him to Tolstoy and Camus. I concur with these voices and as I'm reading Incidents in the Life of Markus Paul, I keep thinking back to how I felt while reading The Plague.
It's the best novel I've read this year. What I love most is the lack of pretension or 'techniques'. Richards just tells a great story and paints memorable, believable characters - it's a winning combination and a fictitious "BIG FISH"
